  • Why don’t you offer monitoring features like other kid-phone brands?

    A few reasons.

    When kids feel watched, they get better at hiding. Surveillance teaches evasion — the same skill parents are trying to prevent.

    Earned freedom makes honesty easier. When more access is something a kid works toward, there's less reason to sneak. The structure does the work that a monitoring app can't.

    Healthy habits outlast any control app. Parental controls expire the day your kid moves out. Habits don't. We're building for the long timeline.

    Parents who constantly have audit their kid's phone feel like a compliance officer. We built a plan that doesn't require that role.

  • If you have nationwide coverage why do you sell in only a few states?

    This is one of our most-asked questions. The short answer:

    • Coverage is nationwide. Once you're an eq telecom customer, your phone works anywhere on our partner network across all 50 states.
    • Sign-up is currently limited to five states: Utah, Idaho, Arizona, Florida, and Ohio.

    We're growing state by state to keep our service quality high. If you're outside our sign-up area, you can join the waitlist to be notified when we open in your state.

  • How reliable is eq telecom’s network?

    eq telecom runs on one of America's largest 4G LTE and 5G networks. You get the same nationwide coverage you'd expect from a major carrier  for calls, texts, and data  almost everywhere in the country.

  • What makes eq telecom different from big wireless companies and kids’ phone brands?

    Big Tech sells you smartphones. Kid-phone companies sell tools to manage them. We sell a phone that doesn't need either.

    Here's what that means in practice:

    1. A phased path, not a single product. Families start with a simple flip phone and move through five stages as their kid grows into more access. The journey takes years vs receiving premature access in weeks.
    2. Affordable essentials. Plans start at $5/month. No contracts, no surveillance dashboards, no monitoring app subscriptions.
    3. Trust over tracking. Most kid-phone companies sell you a smartphone with monitoring apps bolted on. We start with a simpler device and add capability as your child earns it. The structure does the work a monitoring app can't.
  • How does the automatic speed management work?

    For kids' Junior Data plans:

    Data is split between two speed tiers:

    • Junior Safety Data - Slow speeds for browsing essentials like schoolwork and quick searches. Too slow for streaming or scrolling, by design.
    • Junior Essentials Data - Essential-only access for things like Google Maps. Encourages offline activity.

    As one tier is used up, speeds shift automatically to the next. Essential functions like calls and location stay active throughout.

    For adult Balance plans:

    Data starts at high speed and gradually shifts to slower speeds as you use more - High-Speed Data → Standard Data → Basic Data → Zen Data. The slowdowns are gentle nudges, not cutoffs, so essentials stay working while distracting content gets harder to enjoy.

  • Can I have the whole family on one account?

    Yes. You can manage kids' and adults' plans under one account and one bill. Mix talk-and-text plans for children with adult plans for parents all in a single family account.

  • Can I transfer (port) my existing phone number?

    Yes. Keeping your number is straightforward. During signup or activation, choose the option to transfer your existing number from your previous carrier, and we'll guide you through the process.

  • Are there long-term contracts?

    No. All eq telecom plans are month-to-month. Change or cancel anytime, no penalties, no early termination fees. We believe in flexibility and giving families the room to adjust as their kids grow.

  • How do I know which step is right for my child?

    It depends on your child's age, maturity, and your family's pace. Most families start at Step 1 (Talk & Text) and move forward when their child is ready. Some highlights:

    • Step 1: Talk & Text - A simple flip phone with calling and texting. The cleanest first start.
    • Step 2: Wi-Fi Flip - Same simplicity, with Wi-Fi at home for messaging and basic browsing.
    • Step 3: Slow Data - Maps and messages. No feeds, no social, no apps.
    • Step 4: Smartphone with Slow Data - A smartphone with the same data discipline.
    • Step 5: Full Access - Earned over time, when they're truly ready.

  • How do I pay for a phone?

    Phones are purchased upfront at checkout. Our most affordable device starts at $60 and our highest-priced device is $120, keeping the entry point accessible without long device commitments.
